The community is invited to join a virtual conversation with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Chief Of Police, Chief Gina V Hawkins. Last week we spoke with Superior Court Judge Lora Cubbage, Judge Stephen Stokes, Senator Kirk Deviere, Democracy NC and various guests. The conversation was incredible and productive on all sides. We want to keep the conversations going along with adding resources and action to create progress.
This will be an opportunity for Chief Hawkins to share her thoughts on what is happening within communities throughout the country, as well as where we are in Fayetteville NC. The goal is to explore ideas to increase relationship building and solution oriented conversations between law enforcement and our community.
Community members are invited to respectfully share input as well as ask questions. Below are a few topics that have been brought to our attention prior to the event:
What can we do to build better relationships between communities and law enforcement.
Is it police procedure to restrain citizens using a knee over the neck?
How can we as citizens help to change unfair/ dangerous policies or procedures?
Do we currently have a channel for youth and community members to relay citizen concerns to the police department? If so, how can citizens get involved?
