102 Year Old Fayetteville Resident Ida Gertrude Stackhouse Voted For The First Time

Fayetteville Resident, Ida Gertrude Stackhouse amazed everyone at Stoney Point Recreation Center today as she made her way inside to vote. She didn’t take advantage of the curbside voting option, but instead took her bright spirit and beautiful smile into the building to cast her vote. Her information was not in the system, so poll workers had to input that today. She actually used to work in the field alongside family in the same area where she voted today. Today, her family stood by her side to assist as she completed the process as they voted as well. Her children and family were anxiously anticipating what happened today. She was unable to vote for some time, having been a part of the Jim Crow era, born in 1918. She survived the Spanish Flu Pandemic, World War I & World War II amongst many other things.

Mayor Mitch Colvin issued a proclamation previously, naming June 4 “Ida Gertrude Stackhouse Day.” She is definitely a strong lady, paving the way for current generations and those to come! When asked how she feels she stated that she was happy to be alive and in her right mind. How wonderful is that?
