According to the tampa business journal, Tampa-based Sykes Enterprises is laying off 377 employees at one of its sites in Fayetteville, North Carolina, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter sent out earlier this month.
The layoffs are in response to “recent changes in our client’s business needs,” according to a statement from the company. The company is “bringing in” new clients in August that will create new highly skilled positions in Fayetteville
Current Sykes (NASDAQ: SYKE) employees affected by the layoffs will be able to qualify for new positions and the company plans to accommodate as many of those employees as possible. Other employees may also access opportunities with the company’s work-from-home network, SYKESHome.
“Sykes is proud to be a part of the community in Fayetteville, and we look forward to bringing quality job opportunities to the area. We also look forward to continued involvement in supporting our neighbors, through work with the Humane Society, American Girl, and the Pet Supply Drive,” the statement read.
Service for Sykes customers at the Fayetteville office will cease June 30 with layoffs taking effect July 7. Of those affected, 336 are customer service agents and 15 are team leaders, according to the layoff notice.
Sykes is refurbishing an existing location in Fayetteville at the Sykes Center to accommodate new jobs.
