NC Governor Cooper to have the authority to shut down The Chemours Co. plant that is responsible for the ongoing GenX concern. If the unauthorized discharges of the chemical continue after June, the plant can be shut down. North Carolina legislative Republicans have reportedly come to an agreement that will aid in the cleanup process, as well as help contain and evaluate unregulated industrial chemicals that are being dumped into the water supply. In the agreement, there will be $12 million, with $8 million for University of North Carolina researchers to sample and evaluate any emerging contaminants like GenX.
