In our latest Community Focus report, we’re sounding the alarm on what appears to be an unfortunate and unacceptable case of bad business right here in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Southeastern Appliance Repair, a company with mixed online reviews, has now landed itself on our radar after allegedly targeting a 75-year-old woman in need of stove repair. One of her stove burners would not turn off—a major fire hazard—especially in an older home. To make matters worse, the control knob was broken, making the situation even more dangerous.
The technician, Daniel McAbee, came out and quickly diagnosed the issue. He used a part from his truck to supposedly fix it, charged the elderly customer $150 in cash for the service call, and left. But when the customer checked later, she realized the problem remained.
She reached back out and was told he’d return with a new part. That day never came.
Her daughter and other family members also tried to reach him. Still nothing. When he finally answered a call from a new number, he gave excuses about his phone being hacked and cited personal issues. While life happens, professionalism matters—especially when safety is at stake.
What’s troubling is that this business had more positive reviews than negative. However, after this experience—and a closer look at earlier complaints about ghosting, bad communication, and no-shows—it’s clear: Southeastern Appliance Repair is now on our Bad Business list.
Our elders deserve better. Our community deserves accountability. And businesses need to do better, especially when lives could be at risk.
We’ll continue using our Community Focus platform to spotlight both the helpers and the hustlers—because you deserve to know the difference.
